I first explored yoga as a way to deal with the pressures of a high-stress job in IT and have been practicing various forms of hatha yoga since 2002. I have been a practitioner of the Asthanga Vinyasa system in the tradition of Sri. K. Patthabhi Jois since January 2004. When I was introduced to Ashtanga yoga it was 'love' with my first class! With much encouragement from my teacher Kerry Weavind, I completed my Ashtanga teacher training at The Haum of Yoga in Johannesburg, South Africa and have been teaching since 2005. I have been privileged to practice with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, his daughter Saraswati and grandson Sharath on their tour to London (UK) in March 2006.
Styles of Hatha yoga I have practiced include Bikram, Sivananda, Anusara, Ashtanga and Vinyasa Flow. Yoga has brought me the physical benefits of endurance, focus and flexibility and most importantly to a new level of inner strength and awareness.
I teach yoga because I believe that small change can affect great change. We take lessons off the mat and in to our daily lives - lessons from moments where we decide to stop pushing and surrender, work through a challenging posture or choose to just breathe.
I moved to Canada in September 2006 and bring my uniquely South African experience to yogis in the northern Toronto area. In my classes, expect a vigorous practice with an emphasis on being true to yourself and gaining joy, not frustration.
